Melanocytic nevi or moles are benign tumors formed by aggregations of cells called spilocytes. These cells are related to melanocytes, which are the cells that produce melanin.<\/p>

Melanocytic nevi are so common that they are found in every human being. 1% of newborns have melanocytic nevi. Their frequency and number increase with age, reaching a maximum during puberty. The size also grows and the color becomes darker until puberty and during pregnancy. Moles may appear anywhere on the human body, however, they are more common in parts of the body that are exposed to sunlight. Therefore, moles on the glutes and the female breast are rare.<\/p>

Nevi are distinguished between those that are visible since birth and are called congenital, and in those that appear later and are called acquired.<\/p>

Congenital moles range in size from a few millimeters to several centimeters, and may end up covering a large part of the limbs or torso. They may have hairs on their surface, while their color is usually some shade of brown. In extensive lesions there may be an increased risk of developing melanoma even during childhood. Therefore, the possibility of removing them and covering up the gap with skin grafts should be examined.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Multiple papillomas may appear during pregnancy, especially in the second half. They are more frequent on the face, on the sides of the neck, in the armpits and under the breasts. The histological picture of pregnancy papillomas, when examined under a microscope with special processing and pigmentation, is the same as that of common papillomas. Though usually small, they can reach up to 5 millimeters in size. The cause seems to lie in hormonal disorders caused during pregnancy because in most cases they subside a few months after labor. These are in no way cause for concern.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Papillomas are not malignant tumors, they are always confined on the skin and there is no risk of changing into cancer in case of injury or removal.<\/p>

The only inconvenience that they get tangled with jewelry and the collars of the clothes, which may lead to bleeding or clotting.<\/p>

In the latter case, they harden and darken and, after a few days, they off on their own.<\/p>

Papillomas usually bother women who like accentuating their neck and chest with jewelry or clothing, as they reveal their age -let us not forget that they usually appear in middle age- while when they are darker than the skin, they become more visible and look like “stains”, especially when they are visible from some distance.<\/p>

For men, they get caught in the collars and chains they might be wearing.<\/p>

A small scar may be left in the area after a mole is removed, but it usually clears up over time and almost no traces are left.<\/p>
